Chelsea have been in hot pursuit of Napoli and Senegal defender Kalidou Koulibaly since the start of the transfer period, with new manager Antonio Conte eager to make the Serie A superstar a challenger to the aging centre-back position.

Chelsea and Everton target Kalidou Koulibaly in action for Napoli

According to the Sun, Everton have expressed interest in Kalidou Koulibaly and have arranged a meeting with Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli in Italy next week to potentially work out a deal.

Recent reports have indicated that Chelsea are willing to offer well over $39-45 million for Koulibaly. However, Everton are under new ownership and are looking to splash a ton of cash in the summer transfer window.

In addition, the Toffees likely to receive a significant financial windfall just from offloading their own players should deals for defender John Stones, star striker Romelu Lukaku or even midfielder Ross Barkley if the team ultimately decides to sell part of their dynamic trio.

The 25-year-old centre-back has made 60 appearances in Serie A over the last two seasons and helped Napoli secure a second-place finish and Champions League berth this past year. He also contributed two assists for the club in the process.

Chelsea’s defensive front struggled mightily to preserve games last season, allowing the eighth most goals in the Premier League en route to a 10th-place finish on the table – after allowing the fewest goals just one year before.
