Manchester United player rushed to Bali hospital

Manchester United have confirmed Chris Smalling has fallen ill while on holiday in Bali after pictures emerged on Twitter of him receiving medical treatment. The 26-year-old defender was pictured with a bandage around his head and a neck brace as he signed a Manchester United jersey.

Currently on vacation in Bali following his time with England at Euro 2016, Chris Smalling has fallen ill in Indonesia before reporting back for pre-season training later this month. While extraneous reports on social media were claiming that Smalling injured himself in a learning session of surf (unconfirmed reports had even suggested he had been stung by a jellyfish), Man United decided to react about them player.

A statement on the club's official website said: "Manchester United can clarify Chris Smalling has had food poisoning during his holiday which resulted in him fainting on Sunday.The 26-year-old defender was taken to the hospital and is now feeling fine. Chris would like to thank everyone for their well wishes."
