After Liverpool spent $42 million to acquire Christian Benteke from Aston Villa last season, fans were expecting the Belgian superstar to consistently light up the scoreboard the way he did for so many years at Villa Park and with Genk.
But after one disappointing season at Anfield, Benteke is being targeted by a pair of London clubs, and West Ham United are eager to beat Crystal Palace to the 25-year-old superstar.
According to Bleacher Report via the Sun, the Hammers are interested in Benteke and are poised to open talks with Liverpool over a possible move this week.
Injuries hampered his play this past season, but Benteke still went on to record 9 league goals - his lowest goal total for a campaign with at least 20 league starts.

West Ham United set new records this past season in scoring and point claimed thanks to star playmaker Dimitri Payet, who had a breakout campaign in his first year with the team en route to PFA Team of the Year honors. But now the club is seeking even more playmakers and finishers in an effort to give the top Premier League clubs a run for their money.
However, West Ham still face opposition from Crystal Palace, who reportedly offered £31.5 million for Benteke - just one million short of the fee Liverpool paid for Benteke just one year ago.
Nonetheless, West Ham's success and ascension to the Europa League next year could make the team a much more appealing option to the Belgian striker.
During the 2014-15 season with Aston Villa, Benteke was a huge component in the club's ability to stave off relegation and make it all the way to the 2015 FA Cup Final against Arsenal.
