Selfies have become the new autographs, which in turn can often lead to very awkward moments when fans try to get too close.
In the case of Real Madrid superstar Karim Benzema, the French striker and his teammates found themselves stunned by a crazy scene that emerged when one overzealous fan tried a little too hard to get in for a closeup.
According to Sun Sport, while on tour in Montreal for some pre-season games in the International Champions Cup against Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, a fan launched himself at Benzema, grabbing him on the shoulder to prepare for a selfie before being pulled off by security.
The eager fan tried to fight through the security, trying to get to Benzema again, but was tackled to the ground before being hauled away.
Per the source, the situation required Real Madrid midfielder Isco to be detained by security for his own safety.
The Real Madrid did not show up with all of their stars as many are still recovering from the recent Euro 2016 and Copa America Centenario tournaments. Cristiano Ronaldo specifically has been enjoying a much-needed vacation after injuring his knee in Portugal's Euro 2016 Final win over Benzema's French countrymen.
Benzema, however, was excluded from France's Euro 2016 squad after France manager Didier Deschamps axed him for improper off-the-field conduct stemming from a 2015 arrest for blackmailing a former teammate.

Though he was deprived of international caps, Benzema went on to make the 2015-16 campaign one of the best of his career. He scored a career-high 24 league goals in only 27 La Liga appearances while adding seven assists en route to three Man of the Match honors. He also had another solid performance in the Champions League, netting four times in nine Champions League matches.
