If FC Porto is known for its mastering the art of reselling his players, Benfica is as good at that game as his rival. By reuniting all the great players that went through Benfica and those still in the club, we see that the Portuguese team could have had an impressive 11 to start with. Here is the result!

Jan Oblak

Player of Benfica from 2010 to 2014, Jan Oblak had a hard time imposing himself on the team due to his young age. Repeatedly lent, the goalkeeper has finally established himself as a first-team player and was even voted best goalkeeper in last year’s Liga Sagres. But the return of Thibaut Courtois to Chelsea incited Atletico Madrid to break its piggy bank. Oblak joined Colchoneros for $18 million, which is seen as the most expensive transfer in the history of the Liga for a goalkeeper!

David Luiz

Started in Benfica in 2007, David Luiz made his debut with the Lisbon native jersey ... against Paris Saint-Germain. Despite some injuries, the Brazilian imposed himself quickly with his soccer talents, while his hair became his trademark. In 2011, David Luiz flew to London and joined Chelsea for $28 million. One of the best central defenders in the world today.

Javi Garcia

Actually playing at Zenith St Petersburg, Javi García used to make proud Benfiquistes before. He established himself as a defensive midfielder and is an architect of the great success of the Portuguese championship in 2010. He will join Manchester City later where his positional sense and anticipation will send him backwards on the field.

Maxi Pereira

Benfica has exactly what it needs for his right back Position! Part of the club since 2007, Maxi Pereira sequences good performances to the point where he becomes an undisputed first-team player with the Uruguayan selection. Where he counts, in fact, 100 selections

Fábio Coentrão

If he was crucial to the Portugal selection, Fábio Coentrão was only the replacement of Marcelo in Real Madrid. Yet his talents are undeniable. In 2009, Benfiquistes realized this when they repositioned the player at left-back where he could finally prove his worth. His good performance got Real to buy the player for $34 million.

Nemanja Mati?

The departure of David Luiz to the Blues, allowed Benfica to get back Mati?, who was in Chelsea back then. The excellent performance of Javi Garcia in Lisbon makes him condemns him to wait patiently and it was only after the departure of the Spaniard that Mati? could flourish. He an undisputed first-team player before joining Chelsea... for $28 million.

Bought at Sporting Bragaby Benfica in 2002, Tiago is rapidly became a master at using his training to sell himself which resulted in his integration at the Portuguese selection. But like Mati?, Chelsea also shops in Lisbon signed Tiago for a little less than $15 million. Today in Atletico Madrid, the 34 year old Portuguese still makes himself useful despite his age.

Axel Witsel

Trained at Liege Standard, Witsel arrived in Lisbon in 2011 and convinced everybody with his talents in just one year. Zenith St Petersburg jumped at the chance and put $40million on the table to make sure they had the services of the Belgian. Benfica accepts and realizes an extraordinary deal.

If you did not know the Benfica-Chelsea alliance, now you do! Like Witsel, Ramires only needs one season to prove his talents to everyone. A tireless worker, Chelsea likes the Brazilian and signs with him for $25 million. In 2012, Ramires is considered as one of the best middle fielders in the world. Today, Ramires is blocked in Chelsea by Nemanja Mati?.

Angel Di Maria

At 27, Angel Di María is one of the best soccerers in the world. Craftsman of the success of Real Madrid in the Champions League last year, Di María seems to have lost his way in Manchester United. Everything had started so well in his career. Player at Benfica from 2007 to 2010, the Argentinean has delighted the soccer fans with his performances of great class and his remarkable passes. Even if f he's not doing his best at the moment, he still is undoubtedly the best player on this list.

Eduardo Salvio

If FC Porto has Falcao, Benfica has a little trouble finding a match for his number 9. Oscar Cardozo has certainly scored many goals in Lisbon but the turn his career took later on is nothing exciting. Regarding Javier Saviola, he was a tremendous player but has now evolved towards Hellas Verona. Nicolás Gaitán, as well, is an excellent player but his profile prevents him really evolving as a good attacking player. Therefore we decided to with Eduardo Salvio, the current ride side of Benfica. Being so young, the Argentine can accomplish a great career, so get ready!

With this wonderful team, Benfica could certainly play a leading role in Europe. Do you think this team is better than the one of FC Porto we recently proposed? Click here if you want to compare: The amazing team Porto could have had if the club had k.ept all its players.
